A European arrest warrant has been issued by the Maltese authorities against a woman who last week was jailed in Germany for abducting her daughter.
Claudia Krolik, suspected of being an accomplice in a child abduction attempt in Malta three years ago, was sentenced to two years and six months in prison by a magistrates’ court in Berlin.
Ms Krolik was wanted by the police in 2015 in connection with an incident that happened in November 2014 in Malta, but until last week, no warrant against her had been issued by the Maltese authorities.
In November of 2014, Ms Krolik allegedly helped another German woman, Petra Nemet, try to abduct her three-year-old son from Żabbar, where he lived with his father, Nico Leonhardt, who has sole custody.
During the incident, Mr Leonhardt’s partner, a Maltese woman, grabbed hold of the child after two women ran out of a car that had just pulled up.

She ran off and the other two women gave chase. She later told the Times of Malta that she had been allegedly hit by a taser on her side and face. The Maltese woman said she had lost her eyesight for a few minutes.
