PL announces districts for casual elections

The Labour Party has decided the seats which will be given up by candidates who were elected from two districts, so that casual elections can be held.  Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat will give up the second district. Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech will give up the first district. Finance Minister Prof Edward Scicluna will give up the eighth district. Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia will give up the 10th district and Education Minister Evarist Bartolo will give up the 12th district. The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the party executive and the parliamentary group. The candidates best placed to be elected are former MPs Luciano Busuttil (first district) Chris Agius (2nd district) Joe Debono Grech (eighth) and Michael Falzon (10th) as well as new candidate Deborah Schembri (12th district) The party also set up a commission to submit recommendations within two months to evaluate what sort of work should be carried out by the party clubs.
