Ajkla was abandoned

The support received from thousands of supporters throughout this electoral campaign did not translate into votes for Nazzareno Bonnici, known as Żaren ta’ l-Ajkla... nor emotional support. As sleepy party agents started to trickle into the counting hall in Naxxar yesterday morning, Mr Bonnici, wearing a baseball hat with King emblazoned on the front, told everyone he was sure of being elected. But as the day rolled on, the second district candidate hung around the counting hall alone with a long face, eyeing the few votes in his pigeon hole... a final tally of 47.
