What was originally believed to have been an act of vandalism on the Sliema actors' monument may have been an accident after all.
The ceramic statue of actor Charles Clews in Bisazza Street had an arm broken last night.
Originally it was believed that the statue was vandalised but the Sliema council this morning received reports that the arm was broken in an accident when someone rested on the statue.
A spokesman for the council said this morning that these reports were currently being verified.
The same statue was also targeted two years ago, when it was decapitated. That damage had been repaired within hours.
The statue, which looks like bronze, forms part of a structure that features actors Ġemma Portelli and Victor Apap sitting around a table with a fourth empty seat for any passers-by shopping in the busy Sliema centre.
