A man who was arrested as he was leaving a funeral today pleaded not guilty to violently resisting arrest in Mgarr yesterday at around 3.30pm. Pio Galea, 52, from Mgarr was arrested after officers tried to execute an arrested warrant when he failed to turn up at court in another case. Defence lawyer Peter Paul Zammit said that his client had lodged an official complaint with the Police Commissioner because of the way he had been embarrassed in front of a congregation. The lawyer said that the police were investigating Police Sergeant Renaldo Cremona's behaviour. Police Inspector Edmond Cuschieri said the Mr Galea had also accused the same officer of punching him in the face when there was no evidence of the crime.  Magistrate Audrey Demicoli granted the man bail against a deposit of €800 and a personal guarantee of €1,000.
