Kate Gonzi - The woman behind the PM

Kate Gonzi’s most prized possession is an eternity ring given to her by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi just after their wedding before they left for their honeymoon. He had just graduated as a lawyer and made a real sacrifice to save up for it, the Prime Minsiter’s wife tells Kristina Chetcuti in an interview for The Sunday Times. Mrs Gonzi is very much aware that the wives of party leaders have a key role in politics nowadays. She is very conscious of her role and the fact that she is not a party official. Her husband, she says, gives her a lot of space, believes in her and appreciates her help. He has a lack of interest in food but loves computers and always pulls his weight when it comes to house maintenance. Watch excerpts of the interview above.
