Vodafone will invest €59 million in Malta over the next five years, slightly more than the €55 million it had invested over the past five years, Chief Financial Officer Michel Macelli said today.
"This is because we are happy with the results of our investment," he said.
He spoke during a visit by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi to the new Vodafone premises at Sky Parks, Luqa, which houses 280 employees and reflects the youthful "spirit" of the company.
Dr Gonzi was struck by the modern design of the offices and at one point told some of the workers he was tempted to work there himself.
Speaking to the press, Dr Gonzi said Vodafone's investment was a categorical statement of belief in the country. He added that Vodafone and Malta had a good historic relationship.
Dr Gonzi praised the company for creating an informal and almost paperless environment while also investing in the training of its human resources. He added that the country should not lose faith in its power to create 25,000 jobs in the next legislature.
