A €75 million investment by Enemalta in the upgrade of its electricity distribution network is at an advanced stage and should be ready by June.
During a visit to the ongoing works in Kappara, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said that this investment was necessary ahead of the link to the European grid through the interconnector.
He said that the interconnector – which will start being laid on the seabed as from August, would be commissioned in March, making it possible for the country to introduce a system of night tariffs.
He said that through this system, the cost of electricity to households should come down significantly.
timesofmalta.com spoke to Architect Martin Attard Montalto – Enemalta’s project leader, on the ongoing works.
