Malta Eurovision: Surprise win for young doctor

The home for the elderly St Vincent de Paul will be in party mode this whole week, as their young resident doctor Gianluca Bezzina celebrates his Malta Eurovision Song Contest success. Gianluca, 23, took part with his song ‘Tomorrow’ “just for fun”, after much convincing from his sister singer Dorothy, who also took part in the contest. He was completely clueless that he had any chance of winning and in fact became slightly ‘anxious’ when other singers started hinting at the possibility. “This was completely out of the blue. Till the very least minute I could not believe that I could possible win,” he told timesofmalta.com. This is the first time a medical doctor will be representing Malta on the Eurovision stage. He will be competing in the qualifying semi-final taking place in mid-May in Malmo, Sweden. Full story in The Times tomorrow.
