Zebbiegh murder: Accused is also charged with defrauding partner's father

Kenneth Gafa', the man who stands accused of murdering his partner in Zebbiegh was this morning charged with defrauding the partner's father of some €11,800. Taking the witness stand, Police inspector Maurcie Curmi told the court that on June 9, 2010, Lino Sammut and his daughter Christine, filed a report about the case. They said that Gafa used to take Mr Sammut to Boffa Hospital, and Mr Sammut once overhead Mr Gafa in a conversation on his mobile phone saying that he would be borrowing money at 40 per cent interest. Mr Sammut had told him he would loan him the money himself. He gave him several amounts from different reasons, adding up to €11,800. A couple of months before Christine’s murder, she told the police she wanted to withdraw her criminal complaint against Mr Gafa because they had signed a contract before a notary for him to pay €100 a month. Mr Sammut passed away last August. Taking the witness stand, his son James told the court that his father had told him he had given Mr Gafa €11,800 in cash. He said he was present when the repayment contract was signed and the family had tried to help out Mr Gafa, who was out of a job, by keeping the repayments low. The case...
