The scene of the murder.

A Hungarian national was this evening accused in court with the murder of his partner in an apartment in St Paul's Bay last November 27. Laszlo Nandor Marton, 57, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody.  The victim was a Hungarian mother-of-two who was fatally stabbed with a pair of scissors before her partner critically wounded himself in the chest. The mother, identified by neighbours as 38-year-old Yvette Gajda, was found dead in her flat with more than 40 wounds to her neck on Ephesus Street, St Paul’s Bay. A man, reportedly her Hungarian partner and father of her five-year-old daughter, was also found in the flat, having turned the scissors on himself, sources said. Neighbours said the two had been arguing loudly all morning and they described hearing angry yells and the sound of smashed crockery.  Police Inspectors Keith Arnaud and Jessica Grima prosecuted.
