Inmate charged with injuring warder

Prisoner Shannon Leigh Williams, who is in prison on charges of stealing luggage from the airport, returned to court today charged with grievously injuring a prison guard. The incident happened at 3pm yesterday. Ms Williams, 20, of Portsmouth pleaded not guilty to grievously injuring the warder and to violently assaulting, resisting, threatening and disobeying the warder and another guard. Magistrate Ian Micallef told Ms Williams that things seemed to be getting complicated for her in Malta. “I wish you luck, you need medical help,” he told her. The accused asked to be transferred to another prison section, possibly the forensic unit. Her request is to be passed on to the director of prisons for consideration. Inspector Spiridione Zammit prosecuted, while Noel Biancho was defence lawyer. In June, Ms Williams was charged with stealing a suitcase that belonged to a Maltese couple who arrived on a Ryanair flight from Girona in Spain. She had allegedly gained access to the baggage claim area at the airport after she showed her passport to the soldier on duty and explained that she had lost her luggage when she arrived in Malta on a Ryanair flight in May.
